Paper
How many flat sheets do I need?
The answer depends entirely on what you're packaging. On average, one sheet of Drugwise paper is usually enough to wrap two standard-sized shirt boxes. Each package contains three 21.5" x 34" sheets, so you can wrap about six shirt boxes in total. If you need a visual, watch our product demo on YouTube.
Why newsprint?
Because it makes perfect gift wrapping without causing much harm to the environment. As far as paper goes, newsprint is probably the most environmentally friendly. It's made from a blend of sawdust collected from lumber mills and recycled newspaper fibers, using minimal chemicals to alter its consistency or quality. In the United States, over 90% of newsprint is made from recycled paper. In fact, a single sheet of newsprint can be recycled up to seven times.
Will the ink stain my fingers?
Probably not as much as you might think, but it does a little. Newsprint's ink dries by absorption, requiring no heat sealing or lamination—this allows our printing process to significantly reduce energy consumption and keep the paper as sustainable as possible. Drugwise prints with soy ink, which absorbs more thoroughly than old-fashioned petroleum-based inks (which rub off easily with fingers).
What kind of print quality can I expect?
We use newspaper presses to make our wrapping paper. It sounds a little crazy, we know. Pushing the limits of those old-fashioned web-fed presses is part of the fun—and the result is truly remarkable. Our paper retains the signature jagged edges of newspapers around the world, and in some cases, even the marks of four-color registration. For Drugwise, craftsmanship is part of the product, and the beauty lies in the imperfect yet meticulously crafted finished product.
What's the best way to store excess paper?
The best way to store Drugwise is in a folder or box, out of direct sunlight. Since newsprint isn't acid-free, it will yellow over time if exposed to sunlight.
Can I recycle this wrapping paper along with the newspaper?
Yes! It's absolutely easy! Over 72% of newspapers in the United States are recycled, significantly reducing the impact on forests, dependence on imported oil, and the need for more landfills. In fact, newsprint contains up to 30% recycled fiber and can be recycled up to seven times.
What happens if I throw Drugwise in the trash or compost?
Under the right conditions, newsprint completely decomposes in about six weeks. In fact, it makes great seed pots for the garden!
